RESTORATION PROCESS

Each restoration is carefully thought out and meticulously executed to ensure we achieve greatness in each and every build.

DeSol Classics produces some of the most spectacular examples of an original Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser in existence.

Step One

To begin its restoration process, each FJ is completely stripped to bare metal, frames are aligned and reinforced, then powder coated and painted for superior corrosion resistance. Meanwhile imperfections in its body are repaired and where needed panels are replaced by newly fabricated pieces made of galvanized steel. Each individual panel is meticulously prepared and receives three coats of high quality marine grade epoxy primers and four final coats of Sikkens factory acrylic enamel paint. The entire underside of the body and fenders as well as the inside floor surfaces were coated with heat cured polyurea.

Step Two

The original Toyota F2 engine is completely disassembled, inspected and rebuilt using original Toyota parts. Every part, nut and bolt is replaced with original Toyota OEM or refurbished to new condition. The extensive and vast procurement network that we have established through 30 plus years operating in Ecuador and Colombia is instrumental in locating original Toyota parts. The FJ was a big part of the history and development of these countries.

Step Three

All lights, glass, weather stripping, hinges, body mounts, and exterior badging are replaced. Among many other items, the front bumpers, roll bars and rear step are all new and powder coated.

The wire harnesses are replaced, along with all fuse blocks and relays and the gauges were refinished or replaced with original. Forty years is forty years and wiring needs to be replaced.
